PRIDE Model of Practice

The PRIDE Model of Practice was initially created by a partnership of Child Welfare League of America (CWLA) and Illinois Department Children Family Services (DCFS), numerous agencies, organizations and a university around the USA and OKS in the Netherlands. In Europe the Dutch foundation OKS has been instrumental in almost all implementations.

Family Group Conference

At the end of 1990s, the cooperation between family and professional welfare services was put in a different light with the introduction of the New Zealand 'family group conferencing'. This different vision meant that families, together with people from their own circle, had the first right to search for the best solution to their problems. In this way they stay in control over their lives. This right especially applies with regard to urge and compulsion. Families of course may request professional resources, made available by society into their plan.

When it became clear in 2002 that the introduction of the Family Group Conference (FGC) was no longer served with a project status within the Foundation, it was decided that OKS would cooperate with her partner at the early years WESP (Scientific Educational and Social Projects) and the three first EK-pilot organizations, to establish an independent foundation: the Eigen Kracht Centrale, an organization which promotes the autonomy of citizens in their claim to care, regardless of the field in which it is granted'. Because of the many OKS European contacts around the PRIDE Model of Practice, it was obvious to create, together with others, also a European network for FGC: www.fgcnetwork.eu
